The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod is an independent, local, mutual community bank with over $1 billion in assets. The bank gives away thousands of dollars every year to local nonprofits through sponsorships, grants, and charitable contributions. Supporting the community is part of our mission and part of who we are. For more information, click here.

For years, Duffy Health Center has offered a shower program as part of our integrated model of care. Due to COVID-19 , the shower program inside Duffy was paused and the Cape’s single adult shelter was simultaneously de-populated. Almost overnight the number of unsheltered homeless individuals in our community burgeoned from around 25 to upwards of 60. Most had no place to access regular hygiene services which was more important now than ever.

By early April, with assistance from Senator Julian Cyr, Duffy Health Center received a mobile shower unit through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. Our new shower program was born. The program is staffed by a team of case managers and members of our substance use disorder treatment and recovery support staff. It has been running 3 days per week since April and the need continues unabated.

The program serves an average of 45 people each week. This includes use of the shower, provision of needed hygiene items, and connections to Duffy services and other community resources. As the weather gets cooler, those accessing these services are also in need of warm clothing and proper footwear in order to stay well during harsh weather.

Through this program, we ensure that those in need receive essential items to maintain their hygiene, warmth and overall wellness.
