Duffy's mission is rooted in ensuring timely, equitable access to comprehensive care, including affordable medications, for individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Medication access and adherence are essential to achieving this mission and improving clinical outcomes for the populations Duffy serves.
As part of its 2026-2027 strategic plan, Duffy will build an in-house pharmacy. Because Duffy patients are experiencing homelessness, reliable transportation is typically out of reach. As a result, even when a provider prescribes essential medication, patients may have no practical way to obtain it. What should be a simple step in receiving care can become a barrier with serious health consequences.
When patients cannot access critical medications, preventable health challenges can quickly become life-altering. This can affect their ability to care for themselves and their families, maintain employment, and ultimately secure and retain stable housing. The impact extends far beyond an individual prescription, creating a ripple effect that affects our patients, their families, and our broader Cape community.
The Duffy Pharmacy will remove this critical barrier to care. It will ensure that all 3,200 Duffy patients and others have convenient access to the medications they need to achieve their health and life goals, while strengthening and expanding Duffy’s successful integrated care model. By bringing pharmacy services directly into the care environment, we can help ensure that a prescription becomes immediate treatment rather than an additional obstacle. With the opening of the Duffy Pharmacy, Duffy will bring enhanced healthcare and hope to those who need a helping hand, creating a stronger Cape Cod for everyone.
